3. Check out the Breweries

There are so many amazing cafes, pubs, breweries and wineries in the Margaret River region. Our favourite two breweries to visit with family and friends are Cheeky Monkey and Colonial Brewery. Both Cheeky Monkey Brewery and Colonial Brewery cater for the whole family. With huge playgrounds on site, you can sit and enjoy your beer and delicious meal while the kids entertain themselves. The meals are large and affordable at both places. We especially love going to Colonial Brewery on a Friday night for their amazing $10 pizzas! Delicious!

4. Relax at a Café

As far as cafes go there are so many to choose from and we believe you can’t really go wrong. All the local staff and produce in Margaret River is top notch. If we had to pick a few favourites it would have to be Black Sheep Deli, Sails and White Elephant. Black Sheep Deli is in Cowaramup and excellent for it’s organic and original menu. Sails in the centre of town in Margaret River is great for its yummy breakfast menu. White Elephant Café in Gnarabup is amazing for its perfect location over looking the gorgeous Gnarabup beach and they have the yummiest green smoothie! Some other hidden gems are Smithereens Café in Cowaramup, where Paddy and his team make the best coffees going, and Blue Ginger Café in Margaret River that has lots of produce on sale too.

5. Indulge at a Winery

Margaret River is of course know for it’s spectacular wineries. The options are endless and none should disappoint. Swings and Roundabouts is a super popular place for kids with its massive grassed area and yummy pizzas. We highly recommend Hay Shed Hill’s Rustico Restaurant for the most delicious tapas. They even offer a 6-course tapas degustation that they will match with Hay Shed Hill wines. Perfect! Rivendell Winery is one close to our hearts as we held our wedding there and had the most magical time! The food is scrumptious and the gardens are immaculate.  We also can’t go past mentioning Aravina Estate. Wow pretty much sums it up! The food, the service and the breathtaking scenery, it is all a real treat if you feel like going a little more fancy.

6. Satisfy your Sweet Tooth

As well as wine, Margaret River is also renowned for it’s cheese and chocolate. The kids will love the Margaret River Chocolate Factory and so will the adults. The chocolate tasting is super popular but there isn’t just chocolate to enjoy. The Margaret River Chocolate Company has a really nice café with panini’s, cakes, coffees, the lot! They also sell chocolate flavoured lip balm, body butters and massage oils, yep!

You also can’t go past Candy Cow in the friendly town of Cowaramup. There are plenty of scrumptious sweets and treats on offer including fudge tastings and our fav, extremely morish, Honeycrunch. Millers Ice cream is another excellent place for kids. We go there a lot with friends, as it’s a great meeting place and so close to our home. It has a huge playground with plenty of equipment to entertain the kids and a little bush walk at the back of the venue. The scones and coffee are yummy too if the adults prefer that to ice cream.

7. Go for a walk or ride

We absolutely love walking along the river from Rotary Park and after enjoying a coffee at the Hairy Marron, duck spotting along the bridge, then having a play on the playground and ‘Kate’ the train. In fact we do this walk a few times a week, with our pooch in toe and always suggest it to our visitors as a convenient meeting place.

If bike riding is more your thing, you can also hire bikes from Hairy Marron.  This is very popular in terms of things to do in Margaret River.  If you enjoy walking along the coast instead of through the forest, we recommend starting at White Elephant Café in Gnarabup and walking along the beach or walk track to Surfers Point. There is a great playground for the kids at Rifflebutts just before you walk up the hill to Surfers Point. Another track we walk regularly with our little one and dog. Remember to keep your furry friends on a lead when walking these tracks though. There is a section of Gnarabup Beach that is a dog exercise area so we enjoy letting our poochie run around there.

8. Visit the Animals

Our favourite places to interact with and feed the animals are the Wonky Windmill Farm and Eco Park, Dunsborough Country life farm and Sunflowers Animal Farm. Wonky Windmill Farm and Eco Park has gorgeous orchards on site for fruit picking before or after your farm animal visit. The staff are really friendly and we even got to give the new born goats their bottles, absolutely adorable! Dunsborough Country Life Farm have a huge indoor playground which we love with free tea and coffee for the adults! Our little one had a ball jumping around on the massive bouncy castles too. Sunflowers Animal Farm has Simmo’s Icecream on site for an extra treat for the whole family, yum!
